Harry

Harry came to our Twin Cities Center in 2005 after living in a condemned house with his wife. They both suffered from mental illness, as well as multiple health problems. His wife was put in a nursing home by DHHR; however Harry was able to function well enough not to be placed in a home. Deemed incapacitated, the couple was quickly separated by DHHR.
Harry was sent to TCC were he functioned well with staff and other residents. In 2006, he was finally able to visit with his wife. They began to call each other once a week; in addition to mailing letters and gifts during birthdays and holidays.

This year Harry became extremely ill and staff at TCC was not able to give him the level of care he needed.  Staff immediately began working with his wife’s social worker to see if there was a chance to get him a bed at the nursing home where she was located; since his one desire was to be reunited with his wife. There were no openings at his wife’s nursing home, so TCC staff had to make the tough decision to send him to another site because his health was steadily deteriorating. Harry was placed in Elkins, which put him further from his wife than what he already was, but he agreed to go.

TCC recently received a telephone call that Harry and his wife were going to be located at the same nursing home sometime this month. TCC staff soon followed up on the situation and both Harry and his wife are doing great!
