Supportive Services Project

In collaboration with 4 other local providers of homeless services, the RSLC sought funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to provide comprehensive case management and supportive services for those living on the streets, in shelters and other places not meant for human habitation.   This project seeks to identify this population wherever they are and provide services supporting them to access needed services and to emerge from homelessness to self-sufficiency.

Projects for Assistance in Transition from Homelessness (PATH)

The RSLC’s PATH (Projects for Assistance in Transition from Homelessness) Project supports persons with mental illness and/or substance abuse issues gain access to treatment, achieve psychiatric stabilization and acquire housing.  This project has proven succesful year after year in promoting sustained community independent living and decreased recidivism.

Bridging the Gap

As clients move on to independence, a full-time specialist assists them with budgeting, medication maintenance, grocery shopping, transportation to medical appointments, and maintaining social connections and resources to prevent isolation.

Resident Healthcare Program

Our Resident Health Care Program is the only one of its kind at a shelter in West Virginia.   RSLC’s health program serves hundreds of individuals each year with health promotion, maintenance, and education coordinated by one full time nursing staff and in conjunction with WV Health Right.   This project expanded in 2005 with the hire of an additional part time nursing staff in collaboration with Covenant House to provide extensive outreach services to the homeless in the area.

Peer2Peer Project

The Peer2Peer project uses peer specialists, formerly homeless individuals who are in recovery from substance abuse and mental health issues and have gone through intensive training to engage residents to face their own obstacles.   This project is a huge success, as the specialists can truly say “I understand” and assist those that the RSLC provides services for in an approach that other staff may not be able to deliver given their own experiences.
