RSLWC Veterans Transitional Living Center Update
11/28/07

With funding from the Department of Veterans Affairs, City of Charleston (CDBG), WV Housing Trust Fund, Charleston Urban Renewal Authority and the FHLBank of Pittsburgh, the RSLC is on its way for the development of 27 units of transitional housing and a service center for homeless Veterans.

Before anything could be built in the space selected for the program, extensive site work needed to be completed.  The remains of an old basement existed that had to be removed in order to make the ground structurally sound for building.  As you can see from the photos, the before and during work of this process was extensive.

The RSLC placed the construction out to bid and in September held the bid opening.  Much to our surprise the bids came in way over budget.  This left us with no option but to go back to the drawing board in order to cut costs.  With this, we are in the process of a redesign to accommodate money secured to date.  Several other funding applications have been submitted, however, at this point, there are no other commitments.

The RSLC plans to place this project out to bid again in January with a start date for construction to be late February to early March 2008.  Should you wish to assist financially with this projects construction or furnishings, please go to the home page and make a secure donation on line.  The RSLC Board, Staff and Veterans we serve appreciate your assistance in this worthwhile project.
